and a water bottle.
1 – Day: Monkey Island + Canopy Bridges & Night River
We will meet our travelers at the airport or bus station and transfer them to our Green Jungle Tours office for registration. Then we will transfer to our pier where we will take our boat to the hotel (30-minute trip). As a welcome to the hotel, you will be served a refreshing juice made with local fruits, and at the same time, the guide will inform you of our hotel policies. Then we will settle into our rooms.
After a pleasant rest, we will visit Monkey Island, located in the middle of the Madre de Dios River, a couple of minutes from our hotel. There you can see different species of monkeys, including a hybrid species. With luck, we may also see sloths, caimans, turtles, herons, and other animals.
After a pleasant Amazonian lunch and a short rest, we will take a walk along a trail where we can see a variety of enormous trees. After a short walk, we will arrive at the suspension bridges (canopy bridges) that are built on the thick branches of the trees. There, you will witness the rich fauna of this level of the forest called the “canopy.” As we walk along the bridges, you may see macaws, parrots, toucans, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, monkeys, lizards, orchids, epiphytic plants, and other things. OPTIONAL: on this tree adventure, we also offer you the chance to feel the adrenaline rush of a zip line tour.
At night, we take our boat to search for nocturnal animals that are always on the banks of the Madre de Dios River. We have the opportunity to see caimans of different sizes, owls, nightjars, and, with luck, the world’s largest rodent, the capybara. We return in time for dinner.

2 – DAY: Majestic Lake Sandoval + Jungle Immersion & Night Safari on Foot
One of the best times to see abundant wildlife is at dawn or dusk. In our case, we chose to set out at dawn in our boat towards Lake Sandoval, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. Witness the exuberant biodiversity of Lake Sandoval, which is simply incomparable. To reach Lake Sandoval, we walk along a wooden trail of almost 3 km (1.8 miles). Throughout the walk, we are constantly surprised by the rich fauna of this place. At the end of the trail, we find a small dock where we take a rowboat to tour Lake Sandoval. On this trip, we can see black caimans, giant otters, herons, turtles, monkeys, macaws, wild ducks, and much more. We return to the lodge before noon for lunch.
After a delicious lunch and a short nap, we will take a two-hour walk in the dense tropical forest, guided by an expert local guide, who will lead us along our trails where we can appreciate a wide variety of medicinal plants and trees that may be over six hundred years old. On our trails, you will always have the opportunity to see wildlife such as monkeys, parrots, macaws, squirrels, reptiles, insects, frogs, arachnids, among others, and feel the pure energy of the mother jungle as you experience magical moments within the Tambopata National Reserve.
At dusk, the jungle begins to offer us a majestic nightlife, very different from the usual daytime life. For this tour, we will have to go out with our flashlights and venture into the trails in search of nocturnal fauna such as porcupines, sloths, arachnids, insects, reptiles, opossums, night monkeys, owls, among others. We return to the hotel for dinner and then rest.

3 – DAY: Spectacular Colors + Sport Fishing & Native Family
This beautiful adventure begins at dawn, when we sail upstream on the Madre de Dios River for approximately 1.5 hours until we reach the parrot and macaw feeding ground known as “La Cachuela.” Along the way, we have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful sunrise that nature offers us. Once there, we can see different species of medium-sized macaws, parrots, and parakeets on the river cliffs. On a good day, we could see up to seven species of these birds. For a spectacular view of these birds, we bring our binoculars and telescope. Every day, only in the mornings, these birds come to eat clay that contains mineral salts. According to research, this clay also helps improve the birds’ digestion and metabolism. After an unforgettable birdwatching experience, we return to the hotel, but on the way we have a great opportunity to see sloths hanging from the trees along the riverbank.
After a nap, we set out in our boat to go sport fishing on the riverbanks. As the jungle’s waterways are rich in fish life, we have the opportunity to catch piranhas, catfish, cichlids, eels, freshwater stingrays, and many other species.
In the afternoon, we visit a family of natives belonging to the Matsigenka culture, where we interact with them and learn about their culture. We learn how to use bows and arrows, spin and weave cotton to make their clothing called cushma, They also teach us how to make ropes using plant bark and finally show us their ingenuity in making fire using only nature. We return to our boat and head back to the city at sunset.

4 – DAY: Lake Cocha Yacumama + Kayak Adventure
After a magical night and having filled ourselves with the pure, clean energy of the jungle, we are ready to continue enjoying our well-deserved vacation. This time, we set out after breakfast to venture out in KAYAKs. This tour consists of paddling near the banks of the Madre de Dios River in search of wildlife such as endangered turtles, white caimans, kingfishers, herons, and, with a little luck, anacondas. For this adrenaline-filled adventure, we must wear life jackets provided by the guide. We return to the hotel around noon.
We leave the hotel at sunset and head for the city, then take a vehicle to the impressive Lake Yacumama, which boasts lush, beautiful scenery and the most spectacular sunset in the region. This lake is also home to hundreds of macaws, parrots, and parakeets. On many occasions, you can see black caimans, herons, cormorants, wild ducks, swallows, four varieties of piranhas, and, if you are very lucky, a family of river otters. On this Lake Yacumama tour, we will use a medium-sized rowboat to take us to the spot where we usually fish for piranhas, which is very easy to do with small hooks. We take a photo with the piranhas we catch and then return them to their aquatic environment so as not to diminish the food source for the animals that fish. At dusk, we return to our hotel.

5 – DAY: Botanical Garden
OPTIONAL: Before breakfast, we offer you the opportunity to visit our small farm where we grow local crops. Here, you can taste fruits (depending on the season) and see typical rainforest plantations, such as coffee, different types of cacao, citrus fruits, ingas, bananas, papayas, mangoes, among others. After our last breakfast, we will return to the city before noon.
The order and schedule of activities may be modified at the discretion of your guide in coordination with management, considering three factors: flight/bus delays, the physical condition of passengers, and current weather conditions.
