spot caimans, and enjoy night walks.
DIFFICULTY: The tour is mild in difficulty.
CLOTHING RECOMMENDATION: Avoid black clothing as it attracts mosquitoes. Opt for light and neutral colors like green, beige, brown,
and gray. Bring insect repellent and sunscreen.
ESSENTIALS TO BRING: Carry flashlights, extra batteries, rain poncho, sunglasses, swimwear, hats, a medium-sized backpack, cameras,
binoculars, sandals, some extra cash, and a water bottle.

DAY 1: Visit to the wildlife viewing tower + Caiman spotting

We will meet our travelers at the airport or bus station and transfer them to our Green Jungle Tours office for registration. We will then take our vehicle from our office and travel approximately one hour to the community of Filadelfia, where we will board a boat and sail upriver on the Tambopata River for 15 minutes until we reach the hotel facilities. Before seeing your rooms, the guide will inform you of the hotel policies, and then we will settle into our assigned rooms.

After a well-deserved nap and a delicious lunch, we will take a two-hour hike through the dense tropical forest, guided by an expert local guide who will lead you along our trails where you can appreciate a wide variety of medicinal plants and trees that may be over six hundred years old (Brazil nut and tonka bean trees). On our trails and from the bird watching tower, which is over 45 meters (148 ft.) high, you will always have the opportunity to see wildlife such as monkeys, toucans, parrots, macaws, squirrels, reptiles, insects, frogs, arachnids, among others. Feel the pure energy of Mother Nature as you experience magical moments within the Tambopata National Reserve. As dusk approaches, we return to the hotel for a short rest.

At night, we will use our boat to search for nocturnal animals that are always on the banks of the Tambopata River. On this occasion, we will have the opportunity to see alligators of different sizes, owls, nightjars, and, with luck, the world’s largest rodent, the capybara. On a clear night, we will witness the majestic view of the Milky Way with its endless stars and shooting stars. After a pleasant ecological tour, we will return for dinner.

DAY 2: Chuncho clay lick + Piranha fishing and a beautiful sunset

What better way to start our exciting journey to the macaw and parrot clay lick than with a cup of tea or coffee? At dawn, we take the boat to navigate the Tambopata River for more than half an hour. On the way, we may spot jaguars or anacondas. Once we arrive at the Chuncho parrot and macaw clay lick, we can observe the majestic spectacle of colors and sounds of these birds for more than three hours. While we are enchanted by this wonderful view of birds, we will also enjoy our breakfast in the field. Later in the morning, we return and venture into the small branches of the Tambopata River in search of wildlife such as capybaras, tapirs, wild pigs, monkeys, caimans, turtles, or felines. At the same time, we will enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Tambopata National Reserve and its rivers.

In the afternoon, we returned to the city via the same route that had taken us to the first hotel. Back in the city, we took a vehicle that drove us for about 15 minutes to Lake Yacumama. This lake has lush, beautiful scenery and offers the most impressive sunset in the region. This lake is also home to hundreds of macaws, parrots, and parakeets. On many occasions, you can see black caimans, herons, cormorants, wild ducks, swallows, four varieties of piranhas, and, if you are very lucky, a family of river otters. On this Lake Yacumama tour, we will use a small rowboat to take us to the spot where we usually fish for piranhas, which is very easy to do with small hooks. We take a photo with the piranha we catch and then return it to its aquatic environment so as not to diminish the food source for the fishing animals. As dusk approaches, we head to the pier where we will take our boat to our hotel and finally enjoy a pleasant rest.

DAY 3: Majestic Lake Sandoval + Native Family & Night Safari on Foot

One of the best times to see abundant wildlife is at dawn or dusk. In our case, we chose to set out at dawn in our boat towards Lake Sandoval, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. Witness the exuberant biodiversity of Lake Sandoval, which is simply incomparable. To reach Lake Sandoval, we walk along a wooden trail of almost 3 km (1.8 miles). Throughout the walk, we are always surprised by the rich fauna of this place. At the end of the trail, we find a small dock where we take a rowboat to tour Lake Sandoval. On this trip, we can see black caimans, giant otters, herons, turtles, monkeys, macaws, wild ducks, and much more. We return to the lodge before noon for lunch.

After a delicious lunch and a short nap, we will visit a family of natives belonging to the “Matsigenka” culture where we will interact with them, learning about their culture, how to use bows and arrows, how to spin and weave cotton to make their garments called “Cushma,” They will also teach us how to make ropes using plant bark and finally show us their ingenuity in making fire using only natural materials. We will return to our boat and head back to the city at sunset.

At dusk, the jungle begins to offer us a majestic nightlife, very different from the usual daytime life. For this tour, we will have to go out with our flashlights and venture into the trails in search of nocturnal wildlife such as porcupines, sloths, arachnids, insects, reptiles, opossums, night monkeys, owls, among others. We return to the hotel for dinner and then rest.

DAY 4: Canopy bridges, bird and monkey sanctuary + Kayaking adventure

After a pleasant Amazonian breakfast and a short rest, we will take a walk along a trail where we can see a variety of enormous trees. After a short walk, we will arrive at the suspension bridges (canopy bridges) that are built on the thick branches of the trees. There, you will witness the rich fauna of this level of the forest called the “canopy.” As we walk along the bridges, you may see macaws, parrots, toucans, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, monkeys, lizards, orchids, epiphytic plants, and other things. OPTIONAL: on this tree adventure, we also offer you the chance to feel the adrenaline rush of a zip line tour.

In the afternoon, we get ready to continue enjoying our well-deserved vacation. This time, we head out at sunset to venture out in kayaks. This tour consists of paddling near the banks of the Madre de Dios River in search of wildlife such as endangered turtles, white caimans, kingfishers, herons, and, with a little luck, anacondas. For this adrenaline-filled adventure, we had to wear life jackets provided by the guide. We returned to the hotel around noon.

DAY 5: Botanical Garden

OPTIONAL
Before breakfast, we offer you the opportunity to visit our small farm where we grow local crops. Here, you can taste fruits (depending on the season) and see typical rainforest plantations, such as coffee, different types of cacao, citrus fruits, ingas, bananas, papayas, mangoes, among others. After our last breakfast, we will return to the city before noon.

The order and schedule of activities may be modified at the discretion of your tour guide in coordination with management, considering three factors: flight/bus delays, the physical condition of passengers, and current weather conditions.
